Mario J. Porreca

A featured chef on ChefHangout since Mar 2012

My name is Mario Porreca and I believe in fun, cooking, and most importantly - having fun while cooking.  My philosophy is simple: Make it fun and make it your own.  Cooking from the heart while utilizing proper technique and fundamentals is the true recipe that will change your food life forever, and I'm here to prove it!

I am a chef, author, and public speaker. I studied culinary arts at Westmoreland County Community College in Youngwood, Pennsylvania and also completed a three year apprenticeship at The Duquesne Club in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The Duquesne Club is a very prestigious property that has earned the distinction of Number One City Club In America multiple times, including the entire duration of my tenure. As a student, I won three gold medals and Best Of Show awards in three American Culinary Federation (ACF) Salons hosted by the Laurel Highlands Chapter of the ACF. I also represented the ACF Laurel Highlands Chapter in the Northeast Regional Student Culinarian of the Year competition in Toronto, Canada in 2006.

After my apprenticeship, I continued cooking at The Duquesne Club full time and was promoted to Sous Chef in 2007. I became the youngest Sous Chef in Duquesne Club history (founded in 1873).

After working as a Sous Chef for nearly two years, I left The Duquesne Club to pursue other goals in the food world. I have since co-authored two cookbooks (Isagenix Is Food and The Good, The Bad, The Cookbook).  I have also been a featured chef and guest speaker at numerous grocery stores, chamber of commerce organizations, cooking schools, kitchen stores, television shows, large corporations, and conferences for various groups.  I am very excited to be a chef at and  to have the opportunity to cook with people from all over the world.  Always remember to: "Cook, Eat, Be Happy!
